How this guy ever got a job commentating on poker is amazing. He is a complete moron. All he can do is call the cards that come out on the flop. Every lame joke that comes out of his pie-hole falls flat. Does this show have such a small cast budget that they can't find a person that can form a coherent sentence, AND knows the basics of no-limit poker? No wonder it's on at 2 am.
As I mentioned in the update a couple of weeks ago, AJ Benza was on the February 27 Ante Up podcast, and he was a smile to listen to. I pefer him on the podcast to the show actually. He talked about how Michael Phelps was almost on the show; how Peter Eastgate has no TV personality; how young prodigy Tom Dwan makes even Doyle Brunson look dim; how he and Gabe Kaplan, both being from Jew York, have quite a rapport when doing commentary; that the show really had been cancelled; the handicap of doing the show for a network run by a woman; and that they hope to get a 52-week committment to the show after this run.
a 52 week commitment for high stakes poker would make my life so much better. it is the best show on tv. not just the best poker show; the best freakin SHOW on tv. i am going to start praying every night that this show produces new weekly episodes. come on GSN - get on board. just don't take away the prop bets while they play. that is a great part of the show.
52 weeks would be great, but no show produces that many episodes. Some of us think PAD cash games are better, because you get to see most of the hands (how people actually play). I liked HSP at the beginning because it seemed like a real game that they just happened to film... and it pretty much was. I agree with you about the prop bets: I just want to see what a high-stakes game is really like. But we're probably in the minority. Even on 2+2's TV forum a recent poll had prop bets beating no prop bets by only 56/44%.
