PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge To Air On Fox

Undeterred by the failure of Full Tilt Poker's Face The Ace, PokerStars is now running qualifiers for it's own heads-up poker TV show, to air on Fox later this year. Players that place well in Million Dollar Challenge freerolls on PokerStars will be able to submit an audition video. Qualifiers will be asked to bring two buddies. Compared to Face The Ace, the larger pool of applicants and the presence of the buddies could make for a better TV show.

Four or five players will be on each show. They will play best-of-three heads-up matches against three PokerStars pros and celebrities. Daniel Negreanu will coach the players. If they make it through three rounds, they'll face Daniel Negreanu himself for $1 million. The shows will air on Fox on October 11 and 18, November 22, and December 13 and 27, all at 4:30 PM.

PokerNews.com did a comparison of Million Dollar Challenge and Face the Ace and concluded that Million Dollar Challenge is the better show, which I think is the consensus view.

The October 13 2+2 Pokercast was mostly about Million Dollar Challenge. Daniel Negreanu talked about how it's not targeted at poker players like us so we may not like it. They also had a PokerStars marketing executive on to discuss the show.

And if you missed it, Daniel said it was the highest-rated poker show in history.
