It's not that the WPT is a great show; it's just that most of the other shows are worse (yes, it's sad that that's the state of televised poker). Many shows don't even focus on the poker, show the hole cards, or convey the action with onscreen graphics. By virtue of getting those basic things right, I think the WPT is better than most of the shows on TV, and therefore deserves at least an average, 3-star, rating. <BR/><BR/>I wrote <A HREF="http://pokerontv.blogspot.com/2007/04/world-poker-tour-season-5-review.html" REL="nofollow">last season's thorough review</A>, and it still reflects my opinion of the show for the most part (though I added additional thoughts in the comments of the review since writing it).
